Latvia - climate

The climate of Latvia is humid, continental and temperate. It is often cloudy. The mean air temperature in June is +17 °C (there are occasional jumps to about +34 °C). The mean January temperature varies from -2 °C to -7 °C, with occasional drops to -40 °C. In spring the weather is warm. It is a pleasure to see the nature waking up from its winter sleep. On the other hand, the weather in early spring might be somewhat discouraging because of the slush resulting from the melting snow. So April and May are probably more preferable for visiting Latvia.

Summers are short but charming. Late autumn might be not very pleasant but autumn in general is a very beautiful season indeed. Winter lasts from December to March. It provides wonderful opportunities for those who like ice skating, tobogganing, skiing, ice fishing and other winter activities.
